Anthropology in the context of technology? SL Insider sheds light on the topic by Akela Talamasca. Thanks, BTW. I am interested in reading what all the talk is about humans not biologically evolving as much but evolving via technology. Technology is the new kid on the block for evolution? Sounds interesting, but yes...I'm not convinced I'd call it evolution :) especially in the macro-evolution sense. This may not by my line of subject, but I think logic and faith can go a long way. Faith? yeah, well...we all believe in something even if it's nothing.
First: Is evolution historically evident?
We can't really talk about evolution happening today without agreeing it's been evident thus far. This could be a lengthy discussion all on its own, I'll just mention this one point I find compelling to why I don't think there is enough evidence to make evolution a viable theory:
We have no cross-group evolution evidence. The very few supposed findings are highly disputable and most (if not all) have been proven to be fake. These would be a huge findings for macro-evolutionists. And you'd think they'd be everywhere. But we have yet to find a fossil that tells us when or how land creatures evolved into flying creatures for example. The only thing that one can do is compare the similar features and say "ah, there is the similarity in these animals because they both breath, have eyes, etc." But that is not enough to show a mutation. Scientists know this. There must be instances where specific elements are shown to be mutation from one group of animals to another.
Technology shows the next steps in evolution?
I disagree. I think that to transfer the understanding that evolution is a natural process of probability, to something that we intelligently work out together as humans, is sort of cheating your own system. Is the concept that humans came from evolution and now humans control evolution? Where's the sudden leap? Evolution, then, does not work like it use to? It is, under us? We are becoming our own god? Interesting.
Technology shows a creators finger print?
Try this food for thought. We, in all that we're pursuing in technology and science, are moving forward, yes. If we still had a common language, God in the Bible, believed we would be able to reach the heavens through our effort and he knew that early on. The Tower of Babel is a compelling truth of that. Technology is moving us in that direction, no? Of course I don't think we will get there. One doesn't have to imagine why the division among mankind would prevent us from reaching such a goal. But you can see how close we've come to doing some amazing things: Cloning, stem cell, virtual worlds, medicine, the universe, etc.
All I wanted to point out with this example is that the Bible has, time and time again, held true while science has had to work all these things out through the years. I'm a big fan of science. Don't hear me wrong. The scientific method is a great way to study and explore the world. But I don't believe science is the essence that one can base all philosophy and faith on.
A Second Life Analogy: Suppose Linden Labs built a bug free, perfect replica of reality through Second Life. Then people were being born right into the world. And then LL left and hid, and took all the historical information away, leaving no trace they were there, like The Matrix, but human run(doesn't really matter actually). You (being born into this world) study this world using scientific method, but that never allows you to escape the code that LL wrote since you don't have permission to access the scripting language or tools, so the logic traps you to the world you experience. Does that mean there isn't something outside the walls of that reality. Of course not. Many people say that "God is an illusion", "prayer is an illusion" and think they are enlightened. But what if that just keeps you satisfied enough to believe the world around you is all there is, when in fact there is more? Conceptually, there is always the possibility that God exists. My question is, do you fear that?
Haha, this is really just the beginning, isn't it? Have thoughts? Please comment but please keep it clean and civil...and remember...don't drink and TP.
